Exclusive: Iwobi happy with his decision to play for Nigeria over England
Arsenal starlet Alex Iwobi who made his Nigeria debut on Friday to end any hopes that the English FA had of convincing him to pledge his international allegiance to England told sportlineng.com of his pride in representing the Super Eagles.
When asked of his decision to play for Nigeria instead of England he said:”I have always wanted to represent Nigeria. This is where I am from, this is where my family are from.
“I feel comfortable playing here this is my decision and I am happy to be here.”
The Gunners forward who came on after the half-time break during the Super Eagles’ Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Egypt at a packed Ahmadu Bello Stadium to shatter England’s hope talked about Arsenal’s title chances.
“We are just trying to win the next eight games. Hopefully if we can win, we see where we finish at the end of the season.”
Alex Iwobi was full of praise for his Arsenal teammates Mezut Ozil whom he said has helped him improve his game a lot.
“I play in the same position as Ozil. I am learning each day how to play, how he gets a lot of space, assist in goals and also get goals,” said the 19-year old Nigerian.
“Each day in training he is helping me and I am learning just by watching.”
