Nigeria’s national basketball team, D’Tigers, who had fallen at the semi-final stage in two of the past five AfroBasket tournaments, and have also lost their two past finals to Angola, are one match away from making history. Standing on their way to winning their first AfroBasket title is the Almighty Angola.
Angola, who are 11-time champions’ and the most successful basketball team in Africa had beaten Nigeria every-time they played their Nigerian counterpart a record of 8-0. They will be basking on their maximum record against Nigeria going into this tie.
Nigeria who had improved as the game goes by would fancy their chances of making history tonight, after all they beat the only team yet to be defeated in the tournament, they have the best players on the bench ( scored more points from the bench than any team in the tournament).
D’Tigers, who are in the finals of the Afrobasket tourney for the first time in 12 years, will have to opt their game if they stand a chance of getting the automatic qualification for the basketball event of the Rio 2016.
D’Tigers who will be playing Angola, a team with a great Psychological advantage thanks to their wonderful record against them, would have settle in quickly and take control of the game by stopping the Angola national team from dictating the tempo of the game.
Carlos Morais and captain Eduardo Mingas who were joint top-scorers for Angola with 14 points each against Tunisia most be kept at bay if D’Tigers will record their first victory over Angola. The duo are in the heart of everything the Angolans do.
Nigeria, who are chasing a maiden AfroBasket title, will face Angola who are challenging for their 12th title in 14 tournaments today August 30, 9pm.
Nigerians all over the world will be hoping Chamberlain Oguchi, Olaseni Lawal, Al-Farouq Aminu and co will look for a way to penetrate the best defence in the tournament, rake in all the necessary points needed to win the desired title and make them proud.
