Nigeria’s Etebo to miss Olympic semi-final
Nigeria have been dealt a blow ahead of the Olympic semi-final against Germany as striker Oghenekaro Etebo has been ruled out because of injury.
The 20-year-old, who scored four goals during the Dream Team’s 5-4 victory over Japan, missed the 2-0 quarter-final win over Denmark due to a hamstring injury and will now also have to sit out the last-four encounter on Wednesday.
“It hurts the player to sit out without participating against a team like Germany. But the doctor has told him he won’t be fit for the Wednesday match,” a team official said.
“The player has told some of his colleagues it pains him to miss both the quarter-final and now the semi-final too.
“He said he would be in full prayers to support his team to achieve victory.
“Etebo is very sure that his guys will beat Germany in the semi-final. He is also hoping to get back to action in the final.”
