Djokovic draws Del Potro in Rio, Serena gets Gavrilova
Novak Djokovic will face Juan Martin del Potro in the first round of the Rio 2016 men’s tennis competition, while Serena Williams will begin her campaign against Daria Gavrilova.
Top seed Djokovic missed out on a medal at London 2012 following a defeat to the Argentinian and will be bidding to make amends for that in Brazil.
The world number one will face Del Potro, who claimed the bronze at the Serb’s expense four years ago but has struggled with injuries since.
Reigning gold medallist and Wimbledon champion Andy Murray will take on Viktor Troicki, while Rafael Nadal has been drawn against Federico Delbonis having overcome a wrist injury in order to compete.
In the women’s draw, top seed and reigning gold medallist Serena will face Daria Gavrilova in the first round – in the women’s doubles she and sister Venus will tackle Czech pair Lucie Safarova and Barbora Strycova.
Wimbledon finalist Angelique Kerber will take on Mariana Duque-Marino and Garbine Muguruza will face Jelena Jankovic.
Victoria Azarenka won bronze at London 2012 and begins her campaign against Zheng Saisai.
