Gambo returns after injury spell

Gambo Mohammed has recovered from a ruptured tympanic membrane and is now in line to make his first appearance for Kano Pillars after a month and nine days on the sideline.

The Kano Pillars striker is listed in the match day squad for the Federation Cup round of 64 game against Gateway FC at the Confluence Stadium in Lokoja on Wednesday, but he will start from the bench.

“It is good to have Gambo back in the team. His return is like signing a new striker because he is an important part of this team like the other players,” Kano Pillars head coach, Mohammed Baba Ganaru said.

The forward had suffered the injury when he collided with Rivers United’s Wilson Andoh in an aerial challenge in their Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) game on April 17.

Gambo, who has had a string of injury spells including one from an armed robbery attack last season, is praying to have a long haul without being sidelined again.

“I am happy to be back. I thank my club, officials and teammates for being there for me. I am praying that this time I will not have any reason to be sidelined again as I want to help my team this year win the league,” Gambo said.

The Kano Pillars man has scored two league goals so far this term.
